Plots:
Pilot: In the city of Pawnee, Indiana, city government employee Leslie Knope works tirelessly to improve the town. Her coworkers are Mark Brendanawicz, Tom Haverford, Donna Meagle, Jerry Gergich, intern April Ludgate, and boss Ron Swanson. Citizen Ann Perkins complains about an unfinished apartment complex next to her house that is currently just a pit, which Leslie vows to fill in.
Canvassing: Leslie, Ann, Mark, Tom, and April go door to door around the neighborhood spreading information about the pit that Leslie wants to turn into a park. They have some trouble getting positive reception, and at a town hall forum, the citizens are unhappy with the plan.
The Reporter: Reporter Shauna Malwae-Tweep shares a romantic experience with Mark Brendanawicz to prevent her paper from printing negativity about Leslie's pit. However, Leslie still has feelings for Mark, whom she shared a romantic night with years before.
Boys' Club: The parks department receives an expensive wine and cheese gift basket which Leslie maintains that they shouldn't open because it's too extravagant. However, Mark and some of the other men have a "boys' club" which is where they drink and catch up after work. Leslie wants to join (she brings Ann in, too) so she can impress Mark. She decides to open the basket, which she is reprimanded for the following day.
